What is aptosid? - Debian Hot & Spicy!

Welcome to aptosid : Current release: aptosid 2013-01

aptosid is an operating system based on the Debian GNU/Linux unstable branch, codenamed sid, and our ISOs hold fast to the core values and the Social Contract of Debian (DFSG).

We aim to be 100% compatible with debian sid, and we are at the forefront regarding the definition of a 'rolling' distribution.

Using aptosid, with Debian, will give you access to over 30,000 free and open source packages, be it for private, business or public use and will provide you with the cutting edge of the latest software currently available.

If you are new to aptosid and do not know where to start, then look at the manual's Quick Start page.

aptosid forum login issues

Contributed by bluewater on Jan 19, 2015 - 02:26 PM
We have a major bug within aptosid.com forums that is causing problems for new user registrations.

It manifests itself with the following notice:

"Error! An unidentified problem occurred while sending an e-mail message"

Whilst the registration is accepted, it will not allow a new user to login.

Until we are able to fix the issue the temporary solution, for now, is as follows:

Step 1)
With an IRC client:  /join #aptosid

Step 2)
State your issue about registration and be patient, A response from admin could take minutes or hours, depending on time zones.
A member of the admin team will enter into a private conversation (PM /query) to help you.

Booting aptosid

Contributed by bfree on Jul 18, 2011 - 03:50 PM

When aptosid is released, a new set of iso files hit the mirrors making available the latest entry point to the rolling aptosid cycle. The first step is to boot up the system shipped in those iso files and there are numerous ways to do this. I am going to run through the main options with a brief explanation of why and how you might want to use each method. Much of this is covered in the aptosid manual. Some information is new though and not yet covered there while other sections are a more unusual and may never be covered there.

New Sponsor, New Servers

Contributed by slam on Feb 28, 2011 - 09:48 AM
As of last night, this site (including forums, wiki, the aptosid.com/debian repository and our archive) runs on a new server, thanks to our new sponsor Webtropia (part of myLoc managed IT AG), who provides 3 dedicated new servers to us (4x quad-core AMD Opteron 1352). We welcome our new sponsor and are looking forward to a lasting and successful co-operation with this fine hosting business. Why the change? ...
