did dolphin remove the ftp protocol support? I get the message "protocol not supported by dolphin, Konqueror has been launched" or could this be a bug in a library that dolphin uses? Can I do anything to get my ftp support back into Dolphin or can anyone recommend a good gui ftp client? thank you for your advice.
here is what I get when i check on the kdelibs5-plugins.

Does it work with konqueror ?
I have no problems with ftp and dolphin
Try within dolphin -> use view -> location bar -> and check the editable location box (you might have to close and reopen dolphin) |

Support for ftp:// in all KDE based applications is provided by kdelibs5-plugins, which should be rather hard to lose in a KDE environment. |

I checked on the kdelibs5-plugins and it is current. I also took a screen shot and attached it to my original message along with the term output. Should I move this conversation to a bug report for kdelibs5-plugins? |

It might make sense to create a new/additional user for testing first, to rule out local configuration issues.
Unfortunately I still have to use ftp:// (rather than a better, encrypted method) in dolphin regularly, so I know that it works at the moment and on several up to date system - at least in general. So before filing a bug against kdelibs5-plugins, I'd try to investigate what might be different on your system (your user's configuration). |

I will do that thank you so much for your assistance. I will do a dist-upgrade for the few packages i have to update and then create a new user to test for local config issues. |

you are correct in that it must be a local config issue as the test user can indeed ftp within dolphin. im looking thru the test account user settings looking for the dolphin config or something that would relate to ftp config locally. if you could give me a push in the right direction as to were i would find the config file I need to fix that would be appreciated. I'll find it eventually as I am going thru every file in the test account lol it would just be faster if you knew which one i should fix. thank you again. |

You might also want to check and see if you have
Code:
/usr/share/kde4/services/ftp.protocol
Will be a plain text file (you should, just covering bases) |

thank you guys for all your help I was still unable to determine what was actually causing my issue but I went to init 3, renamed my .kde directory and started the kdm / kde backup. this resolved my issue but I still don't know what caused it in the first place. I searched thru each of those files and also searched in my local for anything ftp related and found no differences between the test user side and my regular side. but I would label this issue as resolved regardless. thank you all for your advice. |
