i've encountered the following issues wich may not be solved by now (even after dist upgrade)

1/ after bootup the usb mouse do not works : i have to unplug it, replug and this gets it recognised and working

2/ each time i boot up the desktop shows a message about a lost selection in the notification area

3/ various graphical "artifacts" on windows (scratched borders, lines of text missdisplayed...) not too handicaping but uggly

4/sudden freezes of system (had to reboot) using iceweasel

more

my version of debian is :

hello

i dist upgraded again, no change.

is it a problem with packagesindex ? apt-get update tells me "incoherent md5sum... unable to get http://cdn.debian.net/debian/dists/sid/ ... ndex" (i translate from the french message i get )

searching...

(under fluxbox, seems less buggy up to now .i keep using it instead of xfce to check if the problem is more related to xfce
or comes from xserver)

I'm also using Intel graphics (82915G) and have been noticing weird artefacts (see attachment below, on the words "Joined" and "Luis"). They affect many different programs (even xterms) and sometimes disappear like ghosts when changing window focus, making them hard to photograph. I use Fluxbox (on a 32-bit XFCE install of sidux--->aptosid, DU'ed just now). My 64-bit machine doesn't suffer these artefacts but is running on an AMD Radeon HD 5750, so I suspect it is due to the Intel driver.

Regarding your 4th error report above, my previous older computer was using Intel 82845G onboard graphics but became so problematic with random lockups and X hanging (with the error in the console "detected a hung GPU") that the machine has been retired to headless server duties without X. I guess it is too old to compete with modern intawebs' Javascript overload.

Another thing that freezes Iceweasel (sometimes for many minutes) is opening a tab with lots of embedded Flash videos which play uninvited if Gnash is installed. I often have to run
      Code:
ps aux
in a terminal and kill the most recent instances of gnash to regain control of the machine. Does anyone have any better solutions, other than quit STFW?! Wink

hello deepdayse, devil and spok !

thanks for your remarks/suggestions

for the mentionned bug (http://aptosid.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=1093i) tried to fix the udev but nothing had to be changed (recent upgrade)

concerning the mirror i'm going to try to change it and will give feedback here

about the oldness, i noticed like spok said some trouble with java and had to use the console to ps aux and kill iceweasel sometimes (i do not use gnash), but the actual problem seems different, i think it is related to X because of this non detection of the usb mouse on startup, artifacts happening randomly and sometimes freezes wich leads to a hard reset...

also i have been using sidux and now aptosid since several years, on this laptop, and this problem is absolutely new. From the time i decided to switch to xfce i must say... before, i used gnome or kde the machine was slow, but more stable.

about xfce : 4.8 "stable" was anounced, why is aptosid xfce still with 4.6 ?

thanks anyways !

Edit : changed mirrors from cdn.debian.net to ftp.fr.debian.org and update ok with no error messages

Edit : problems of artifacts make system unusable i've switched my laptop (temporarily i hope) to an other light distro
as i feel unable to solve/undersand what's going on...

happily three other machines keep running aptosid at home
(kde light) ...
